Mohali, March 13

A 17-year-old girl’s family claimed she was abducted at gunpoint from her house in Kandala village in broad daylight on Saturday.

A complaint from the girl’s family said that four unknown people came in a white car, barged into the family’s rented accommodation in the village, bundled the girl into the car at gunpoint and left. A village resident, Sajjan Singh, tried to follow the vehicle for two kilometers and even managed to break its windshield near Jagatpura village but the car drove off anyway, the complaint said.

The girl’s father is a daily wage labourer, the complaint said. Sources in Mohali Police however said later that although they had registered a case of kidnapping, the girl was over 18 and had gone willingly.
