14 students booked for trying to disrupt CM Mann’s event at Panjab University
Fourteen students of Panjab University, who entered into an altercation with the Chandigarh Police when they tried to reach Law Auditorium on the campus, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was addressing a session during ‘Punjab Vision 2047’ conclave on Wednesday, were booked by the police today.
The cops had to use mild force against the protesters in which some of them had sustained minor injuries.
As per a complaint filed by chief of university security Vikram Singh at the Sector 11 Police Station, “Students and outsiders tried to create nuisance and ruckus during CM Mann’s visit.” It was also alleged that the students, led by the Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) and SATH, were protesting without the permission of the PU authorities and unlawfully holding protest outside Vice-Chancellor’s office demanding elections to Senate. They started running towards the venue to disrupt the programme and to press for their demands.
The police have booked the protesters under Sections 132 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 223 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the BNS.
