Chandigarh: An 11-year-old girl died and her father was injured after being hit by a car at Mauli Jagran. Satpal of Mauli Jagran Colony said a recklessly driven vehicle hit him and his daughter near a temple. Both were rushed to Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, where the girl was declared dead on arrival.

Immigration agent booked

Chandigarh: The police have booked an immigration consultant for operating in the city without permission. Vikas Kumar Malhotra, a Kharar resident, was running an immigration office, Dream Future Consultant, in Sector 34 without any permission. He was arrested and later released on bail.

Mobiles stolen from Sec 28

Chandigarh: Two mobile phones were stolen from a house at Sector 28. The police have registered a case at the Sector 26 police station on a complainant filed by Anil Chaudhary.

Mohali: Amity University recently hosted an event to welcome new students. The event, which marked the culmination of ‘Amity’s Got Talent’, allowed freshers to exhibit their talents in various domains, including quiz, debate, extempore, ideathon, photography etc.

Training marks World Heart Day

Chandigarh: Fortis Hospital, Mohali, organised two CPR training sessions under ‘One Beat, One Life’, to mark World Heart Day. The sessions were organised at Sukhna Lake by trained instructors to sensitize the people about essential life-saving skills in emergencies such as cardiac arrest.

‘Run for Heart Health’ held

Mohali: To raise awareness about heart health, Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali, organised a 5km “Run for Heart Health” on World Heart Day. The event saw participation from over 700 individuals. Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, Director, Cardiac Sciences, stressed the importance of heart disease prevention.

Chandigarh: Ankit Gupta, president, Chandigarh Hospitality Association, has been elected vice-president of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India at the 73rd Annual General Meeting held in New Delhi. It is the apex body for tourism and hospitality representing hotels and restaurants of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Mohali: A ‘healthy food festival’ was held by the Department of Life Sciences of Rayat Bahra University in association with Red Ribbon Club and Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education.

Minerva players in India squad

Mohali: Five players of Minerva Academy have been selected in the senior India football squad. Defenders Anwar Ali and Akash Sangwan, midfielder Jeakson Singh, and forwards Manvir Singh and Vikram Pratap Singh will represent India in the international friendly against Vietnam on October 12.

Aarav claims tennis title

Mohali: On the concluding day of the Roots-AITA CS(7) National Rankings Championships, second seed Aarav Bhasker of Uttar Pradesh trounced top seed Shiva Sharma to claim the boys’ U-16 title. Bhasker won the first set 6-4, but Sharma bounced back in the second with a 4-6 verdict. In the final set, Bhasker kept calm and logged a 7-5 win to win the title. In the boys’ U-18 final, Gujarat’s Agastya Chaudhari defeated Punjab’s Umang Singh Cogi 6-4 6-4. The pair of Sharma and Chaudhari won the boys’ U-18 doubles final by defeating Chandigarh’s Mahijith Singh and Kanwar Singh 6-3 6-4.

Merlyn Gosain badminton meet

Chandigarh: On the concluding day of the Merlyn Gosain Staff Badminton Tournament, organised by St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, the pair of Gurpreet Kaur and Jashandeep Kaur won the women’s doubles final by defeating Prachi Sharma and Sital Mundra 21-17 19-21 21-17. Mandeep and Ben William won the men’s doubles final, while in the mixed doubles event, Sital Mundra and Harinder Rana defeated Shama Parveen and Pritam Rawat 21-14 17-21 21-13. Merlyn Gosain, Director, St. Xavier’s Group of School awarded the winners, along with Principal, Dr Ivorine Castellas.

Kirpal wins two gold medals

Chandigarh: 93-year-old Kirpal Singh won two gold medals in the recently concealed Chandigarh Masters State Athletics Championship. He claimed the first gold in the 100m running event, followed by another in the 5km walk event in his age group. The event was held at the Sector 7 Sports Complex.

Kunjan wins judo bronze

Chandigarh: Local judoka Kunjan Punia won bronze medal for the city in the SGFI School Games 2024. The 13-year-old Kunjan Punia of IS Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, won third position in the girls’ U-14 (-44kg) event, in Gujarat. Kunjan is practising under Vivek Thakur, at the Sector 34 Sports Complex.

Chess meet from Oct 19

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise the U-9 and U-15 Open and Girls Championships, at New Public School, Sector 18, from October 19 to 20. The top two players of each category will be selected for U-9 National in Maharashtra and U-15 National in Tamil Nadu.
