Chandigarh lads suffer 40-run defeat against Goa in Vinoo Mankad Trophy meet
Chandigarh boys continue to perform disappointingly in the Vinoo Mankad trophy, as the local team suffered a 40-run defeat against Goa at the Maharaja Yadvindra PCA International Stadium, Mullanpur.
After winning the toss, Goa skipper Pundalik Naik opted to bat first and the side posted a challenging total of 260 runs in the allotted 50 overs. The side lost opener Shaantanu Nevagi (10) early in the innings. However, Aaditya RK and Nisarg Narvekar came up with a stunning show by raising a 113-run partnership for the second wicket. Aaditya posted 86 off 123 balls, with six boundaries and one six, while Narvekar contributed 56 off 71 balls, studded with six boundaries and one six.
Thereafter, the side lost two quick wickets, before Chittem Jeevankumar posted an imported 45 off 37 balls, with five boundaries, to help the side lead towards a respectable total. Jasham Beniwal returned with 4/33 figures for the bowling side, while Gaganpreet Singh picked 2/47. Vashisht and Sreshth Duggal also claimed one wicket each.
In reply, the Chandigarh lads headed to a decent start, but failed to finish the match in their favour. Skipper Balraj Singh (36 off 54 balls, with four boundaries and one six) remained the highest scorer for the side, followed by Ritik Sandhu (35 off 35 balls, with one boundary and three sixes) and Rupesh Yadav (32 off 44 balls, with three boundaries and one six). Ehit Salaria and Rudra Patial contributed 25 runs each. Anuj Yadav (3/34) and Neel Netravalkar (3/39) shared maximum wickets for the bowling side, followed by Shamik Kamat (2/29) and Yash Kasvankar (1/41).
UT team announced for BCCI Under 23 ODI
The Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) announced the local team for the BCCI Under 23 ODI tournament, starting from October 13. Paras will be leading the side as Chandigarh will start its campaign against Kerala, on its home ground. The squad comprises Paras (captain), Arnav Bansal, Akshit Rana, Nikhil Kumar, Devang Kaushik, Sohail, Sarthak Saharan, Anmol Sharma, Ivraj Ranauta, Armaan Jakhar, Aryan Duggal, Dushshant Thamman, Harshit Saini, Gurtaj Bains, Dhananjay Sharma, Rajiv Nair (Head Coach), Amit Kumar (Manager), Dharmender Singh Rana (Assistant Coach), Ashish Awasthi (physician) and Vishal (trainer).
