Chandigarh Forest Dept launches drive to provide free saplings on doorstep
Chandigarh, July 5
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated Van Mahotsav-2024 and planted a sapling of ‘Rudraksha’ in the memory of his mother while launching a plantation driver under the ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’ campaign at Raj Bhawan here today.
UT Adviser Rajeev Verma, along with senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration and members of an expert committee for preparation of futuristic plan and members of Greening Chandigarh Task Force were present on the occasion.
The Administrator also flagged off three vehicles under the “Van Vibhag Aap Ke Dwar” campaign, which aims to distribute saplings to public on their doorstep. These vehicles will cover the entire city, motivating and encouraging residents to plant trees by distributing up to five saplings per person free of cost.
During the ceremony, Purohit also released the Greening Chandigarh Action Plan-2024-25. The plan includes procedures for tree felling and pruning. Approximately 2.75 lakh saplings will be planted by various stakeholders in the city under the plan.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department has launched a special drive focusing on increasing “trees outside forest area”. The initiative aims to promote tree plantation on non-forest land, reaching out to other government departments, organisations, institutions, schools and colleges for tree plantation on their respective premises.
