To curb air pollution and promote environmental sustainability, the UT Administration has permitted use of eco-friendly green crackers during the festivals of Dasehra (for use in effigies only), Diwali and Gurpurab. This decision, taken during a meeting with UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, emphasises the commitment of the Chandigarh Administration towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

Residents will be able to celebrate these festivals with green crackers within the designated time limits. The administration has

allowed the use of green crackers in effigies on Dasehra on October 12.

Further, the residents would be able to burst green crackers from 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali on October 31. On Gurpurab, which falls on November 15, people will be allowed to explode crackers from 4 am to 5 am and 9 pm to 10 pm.

The green crackers permitted are to be duly approved by the National Environmental and Engineering Research Institute , a subsidiary of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, ensuring they meet eco-friendly standards by reducing harmful emissions significantly.
