To step up vigil, the UT Administration has decided to install CCTV cameras with high resolution night vision at Sukhna Lake at a cost of about Rs 85.57 lakh.

An official stated that CCTV cameras would be installed around the lake as well as at the regulatory end.

A popular attraction for tourists and local residents to relax and take a walk in the morning and evening, many VVIPs also visit the lake every day. Haryana Raj Bhavan and Punjab Raj Bhavan are also located near the lake. In such a situation, there is a need for strict security arrangements at the tourist spot. Many cases of suicide have been reported in the lake.

A number of incidents of theft in vehicles have been reported from the parking area near the Garden of Silence. Recently, the Engineering Department had installed lights in the area, but owing to a lack of CCTV surveillance, the thieves were never identified.

By installing the cameras, the police will be able to keep a check on activities of mischievous elements at the lake. These will have multi-sensors with night vision and the 360-degree coverage mode.
