Chandigarh Administration to hold mega camp for transgenders
The UT Administration has invited all transgender persons to participate in a mega camp to be held at the UT Guest House on Monday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
The camp will be organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and with the support of various UT departments to address the needs of transgender individuals.
The camp is a dedicated effort to support transgender persons in accessing essential services, resolving issues, and facilitating the implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020. Through the initiative, transgender individuals will be able to obtain important identity documents, such as ID cards, voter cards, Aadhaar cards and ration cards, as well as access to employment registration and bus passes. Senior transgender individuals can also apply for senior citizen cards, while those with disabilities will be assisted with Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards.
In addition to identity and access cards, the camp will provide crucial support for healthcare, legal aid and AIDS control guidance. Guidance will also be available for transgender individuals interested in concessional loans and skill development courses aimed at enhancing employment opportunities.
Attendees are requested to bring along all necessary documents as prescribed.
