Chandigarh administration decides against opening Sukhna this weekend

The Chandigarh Administration has decided to keep Sukhna Lake closed to the public over this weekend, officials said—a development that comes as the union territory continues to report an alarming number of infections.

The Chandigarh Administration decided in August keep Sukhna Lake closed to the public over weekends.

The decision to continue to keep it closed for weekends comes on a day when Chandigarh reported 203 new coronavirus cases and five deaths.

Chandigarh has been reporting a spike in coronavirus cases since the beginning of September, consistently reporting over 200 new cases each day.

The UT has reported 922 new COVID-19 cases in less than a week since September 1.

Almost 40 per cent of the UT’s cases are still active.
