Chamba residents to join global meditation session today
Residents of Chamba district are set to participate in a historic global meditation session on December 21, led by renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This event marks the first-ever World Meditation Day, declared by the United Nations General Assembly. The session will align with the winter solstice, symbolising renewal and collective harmony.
The global meditation aims to unite millions of participants worldwide. From Chamba’s district headquarters to remote areas such as Bharmaur, Pangi, Churah, Dalhousie, Salooni, and Bhattiyat, locals will connect online to take part in this transformative experience, said Manuj Sharma, District Manager of Art of Living.
Sharma emphasised the importance of the event, noting that it marks a new beginning and reflects global recognition of meditation’s profound and transformative benefits. “Meditation not only improves mental and physical health, but also promotes peace, unity and hope within communities,” he said. The initiative underscores the growing acknowledgment of meditation as a powerful tool for mental clarity, emotional balance and peace.
Sharma added that alongside this global session, the United Nations will host a special event at its New York headquarters on December 20, organised by India’s Permanent Mission. Titled “Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony,” the event will feature Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as the keynote speaker, with global leaders, UN officials, diplomats and representatives from across the world in attendance.
During the event, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will highlight the crucial role of meditation in addressing contemporary global challenges, such as rising stress, violence and the erosion of trust in society. The UN General Assembly’s unanimous adoption of World Meditation Day highlights the global need for innovative approaches to address modern societal issues.
The World Meditation Day celebration is expected to become an annual tradition, offering people across the world an opportunity to unite, reflect and pave the way for a more harmonious future.
