Chamba district launches drive to rehabilitate kids living in slums
The District Child Protection Unit, in collaboration with Childline, has launched a drive to rehabilitate children living in the slums across Chamba district, and integrate them into the education system.
A joint team will conduct inspections two-three times a month to identify children living in slums and ensure their integration into the education system.
Efforts will also be made to protect and rehabilitate children who sell plastic waste.
The team inspected Sultanpur and Mai Ka Bagh areas near Chamba city on Thursday and searched for children living without parental care. However, no such children were found on the first day of the campaign.
The team also informed residents about various government schemes and urged them to inform the authorities about any such children by calling the toll-free Childline number — 1098.
Childline Coordinator Kapil Sharma and outreach worker Babli Devi were present during the campaign.
Child Protection Officer Rinku Sharma said the campaign aimed to identify and rehabilitate children living in slums.
The department’s team was actively conducting inspections to achieve this goal, he added.
