Ludhiana, August 12
Flaunting weapons on social media and resorting to celebratory firing is against law. The Ludhiana police had already issued a strict warning stating besides registration of a case, arms licence of violators would also be cancelled in such cases. In the past, arms licences were also cancelled by the police for violating the norms in a few cases.
Sources have revealed that the man firing in the air reportedly owns a licensed weapon while he was also said to be a close associate of a senior politician and MLA.
On Monday, a video from Ludhiana has gone viral on social media in which some youths were celebrating a birthday party and later, one of them fired three shots from a revolver. A person attending the party had made a video of the act on his mobile.
Sources said the party was held at a banquet hall on Pakhowal Road two days ago and its video was posted by somebody on WhatsApp which later went viral.
A probe has also been started by the police to identify the person who fired the celebratory shots. Now, it has to be seen if the police take immediate action in the case or not as the offender was allegedly close to a senior politician.
After the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state, they started filing FIRs against those promoting gun culture. FIRs were filed and action was also taken against many singers and people who uploaded photos with weapons on social media. Lately, police action against the offenders have slowed down.
