After conducting a post-mortem on 22 cows at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University at Ludhiana, the carcasses of all the animals that had died after consuming cattle feed allegedly mixed with a poisonous substance were buried with religious tradition on the banks of Sutlej river in Phillaur late Monday night.
The burial was done in the presence of representatives of several Hindu organisations, including Shiv Sena-Punjab vice-president Inderjit Karwal, Rajesh Palta and Krishan Gaushala president Rakesh Gosain.
Phagwara Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, DSP Bharat Bhushan and Naib Tehsildar Mandeep Singh remained present at the site.
The Hindu leaders asked the police to bring the culprits to book by Thursday, else they would intensify their protest over the matter.
Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, SSP Gaurav Toora with the assistance of SSP (Rural) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh have been monitoring the situation.
When contacted, Gaurav Toora said the police were waiting for the report of the post-mortem to proceed with their investigation in the case. He said law and order would be maintained and nobody would be allowed to disturb communal harmony.
