Candidates set hopes on over 12L voters in six Sonepat segments

As many as 12.13 lakh voters would elect their Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of six constituencies — Rai, Sonepat, Kharkhoda (reserved), Baroda, Gohana and Gannaur in the Assembly elections on Saturday.

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar said all preparations had been completed for the elections. All the polling parties, along with the EVMs and VVPAT machines, had reached their respective booths, he said. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Kumar addressed all the polling parties and encouraged them to conduct impartial and peaceful election process.

Kumar said the district administration was committed to conduct elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner by following the model code of conduct.

He said to conduct the election peacefully, elaborate security arrangements had been made in the district.

As many as 1,800 police personnel, 13 companies of the BSF and other paramilitary forces, including 85 personnel in each company, and 1,200 officials of the UP police, have been deployed in the district to conduct the election peacefully.

A total of 12,13,119 voters, including 6,48,88 male voters, would exercise their franchise on Saturday.

As many as 2,51,693 voters in the Sonepat Assembly segment would decide the fate of 13 candidates; 1,78,316 voters in the Kharkhoda Assembly segment would decide the fate of 11 candidates; 1,95,349 voters in the Ganaur segment would decide the fate of 12 candidates; 2,00,410 voters in the Rai assembly would decide the fate of 15 candidates; 1,96,559 voters in Gohana would decide the fate of 14 candidates; and 1,90,792 voters would exercise their franchise to decide the fate of seven candidates in the Baroda Assembly segment of the district.

Out of 12.13 lakh voters, 38,317 voters are in the age of 18 to 19 years, 10,549 voters are specially-abled, 13,054 voters are of above 85 years old and 449 are centenarian voters in the district.

The district administration has set up 1,291 booths, of which 224 are in Sonepat, 189 in Kharkhoda, 223 in Ganaur, 218 in Rai, 214 in Gohana and 223 are situated in the Baroda Assembly segment.

251 polling booths

critical, 12 vulnerable

Out of the 1,291 polling booths, 251 polling booths are critical and 12 booths have been declared vulnerable. A total of 171 special polling booths have been set up for the elderly, women and disabled voters.

As many as 53 critical booths are identified at 13 locations in the Baroda constituency, 38 at 14 locations in Ganaur, 36 at 10 locations in Rai, 40 booths in Kharkhoda, 48 booths in Sonepat and 37 booths at 10 locations in Gohana. Apart from these, four booths on one location in Kharkhoda, five booths in Sonepat and three booths in the Baroda constituency are vulnerable.
