As election fever grips the state, candidates’ family members are actively campaigning along with them, in a bid to shape the electoral outcome in their favour. From organising public meetings to engaging in door-to-door campaigns, they have become the driving force behind the campaigns.

Rekha Anand, wife of BJP candidate from Karnal Jagmohan Anand, campaigns for her husband in the city on Wednesday.

Apurva Kamboj, daughter of Congress candidate from Indri Rakesh Kamboj, is leading the campaign with her father and uncle in Indri segment. She attends a dozen public meetings daily, highlighting the achievements of the Congress along with the election manifesto. “The Congress will provide two lakh jobs if voted to power,” she says during a public meeting. She led the campaign when her father was admitted to a hospital due to some illness. “We have full faith in the people of Indri and they will elect my father,” she said.

Ayeshna Kalyan, daughter of former MLA Harvinder Kalyan and BJP candidate from Gharaunda, is also holding meetings in rural and urban areas to seek votes in favour of her father. Her mother Reshma Kalyan is also holding meetings separately. “My father has brought development to Gharaunda block without any discrimination. He strengthened health, education and other infrastructure. People of Gharaunda will elect him for the third time,” says Ayeshna.

Samrat Singh, son of former MLA and Congress candidate from Assandh Shamsher Singh Gogi, garners support for his father.

Samrat Singh, son of former MLA and Congress candidate from Assandh Shamsher Singh Gogi, is also leading and managing the campaign of his father. He not only manages the whole campaign, but also reaches out to people through nukkad and door-to-door meetings. “My father has contributed a lot to the development of Assandh. People of Assandh love my father and they will elect him for the second consecutive time,” said Samrat.

Rekha Anand, wife of BJP candidate from Karnal Jagmohan Anand, is also leaving no stone unturned to ensure the victory of her husband. He also focuses on nukkad and door-to-door meetings to reach out to voters.

During her campaign, she emphasises on development works done by the BJP government in the past 10 years across the state and city. “Our government has provided jobs on the basis of merit by abolishing the ‘parchi and kharchi’ system,” she says.

Jagdeep Singh Virk, husband of BJP candidate from Karnal Sumita Singh Virk, is also making all out efforts to secure her victory through door-to-door meetings. He manages all programmes of her wife along with the party workers. “My wife had served the city for two consecutive terms and she had done lots of work, due to which people want to elect her again,” said Jagdeep.
