The election to the department representatives (DRs) will be also be held along with the council poll. As many as 40 DRs have been elected unopposed.
Around 100 teachers would be deputed for counting in Gymnasium Hall.
The PU authorities have hired vehicles to transport ballot boxes to the Gymnasium Hall for counting.
The UT police carried out a flag march on the campus along with the personnel of the Punjab Police. “No kind of mischief or ant-social activity will be tolerated on the campus,” said a police official.
While the campaigning ended at 9 pm on Tuesday, the student leaders and candidates were busy going from one hostel to another on Wednesday. “This is our final attempt to tell students what we stand for and what we would do if voted to power. These days are not just for canvassing and voting but it is a full-fledged festival of democracy on the campus,” said Arpita Malik, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad presidential candidate.
“We ask the students to come out and vote. This university has a vibrant democracy in functioning, which should be recognised by every student here. There is also the provision of NOTA in the Panjab University Campus Student Council poll,” said Dean, Student Welfare, Prof Amit Chauhan.
