Campus notes: Teachers' Day celebrations
Amritsar: Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, under the patronage of Chief Khalsa Diwan, celebrated Teachers' Day with great enthusiasm. Member in-charge Rabinderbir Singh Bhalla extended greetings on Teachers' Day, followed by beautiful presentation of choreography, Sufi Qawalli and cultural programmes by the students, showing respect and regard to the teachers. Japneet Kaur, a student of class XI, while expressing gratitude to the teachers, highlighted their importance in the life of students. Vice president Jagjit Singh said teachers were the beacons of light for students and a good teacher identifies the skills of students, helping them achieve their goals. Later, six teachers — Jatinderpal Kaur, Pardeep Kaur, Gurjit Kaur, Manmeet Kaur, Harmeet Kaur and Sandeep Kaur — were honoured on the basis of their seniority and achievements. Sanjay Vij, computer in-charge of the school, was honoured for his contribution to the organisation over the years.
Annual training camp of NCC begins
Amritsar: A training camp is being organised by First Punjab Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Amritsar, under the leadership of Camp Commandant Colonel PDS Bal at Baba Kumma Singh Engineering College, Satlani Sahib. NCC cadets, who will participate in the Republic Day Parade, will also be selected during this camp. The Camp Commandant said today the students belonging to various institutions, schools, colleges and universities were warmly welcomed during the inauguration of the camp. Around 550 students from Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran are participating in the camp. Their accommodation and food are well arranged. He further informed that the problems faced by the students during the camp will be solved on the spot and efforts will be made to provide nutritious food.
School students visit science city
Amritsar: Principal Aanchal Mahajan led students of Ashok Vatika Public School for an educational excursion as they visited Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala. The trip provided them an important experiential learning environment. The students from Class 4 to 8 visited the science city with a great excitement. The students witnessed the laser show and dinosaur show, where they learnt about the history of dinosaurs on the Earth, besides visiting dinosaur park, birds’ gallery, life through ages, mathematics gallery, fun through science gallery and 3 D theatre. They also were also apprised of Chandrayaan and other lunar missions. The students were also thrilled to see the space and aviation gallery. The ‘science of sports’ gallery section delighted the students as they realised the application of science in sports and games. The whole trip provided them with enriching knowledge of solar energy, wind energy, what leads to earthquakes and the future temperature of the Earth.
