The training and employment cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, organised an insightful expert talk on cracking competitive exams. This event was conducted under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri, which aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and strategies needed to excel in competitive exams. The officiating principal, Dr Pratima Sharma, gave a warm welcome to the speaker Dr Anil Kumar, assistant professor at Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri. Dr Rajinder Singh Vohra, coordinator of the training and employment cell, introduced the speaker and then presented the theme of the workshop and highlighted the significance of preparing for competitive exams as a means to enhance career opportunities. Kumar, shared valuable insights regarding the patterns of various competitive exams, including UGC, CTET, and other national-level tests. Sardar Randeep Singh Jauhar, president of the governing body and managing committee of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in guiding students toward successful careers.

National pharmacy week concludes

Sirsa: The 63rd National Pharmacy Week concluded at JCD College of Pharmacy, Sirsa, with a grand ceremony. Dr Yashpal Singla, controller of examinations, GJU, Hisar, was the chief guest and the event was presided over by Dr Jayaprakash, director-general of JCD Vidyapeeth. Dr Jayaprakash emphasised the importance of pharmacists in maintaining global health and combating diseases. Dr Singla described pharmacy as the backbone of healthcare and encouraged students to respect their parents and stay eager to learn. Students showcased their creativity through competitions like rangoli, cooking, singing and dancing. Winners received medals and certificates. The B Pharmacy's first-semester team won the cricket trophy, while the fourth-semester team claimed the volleyball and overall championship trophies.

Inter-varsity basketball championship starts

Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KUK), has started a six-day North Zone Inter University Basketball (men) championship at Sports Complex of Dronacharya Stadium of the university. The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, KUK's Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said active participation in sports instills the values of accountability, leadership, team work, fun, execution, playing smartly and with confidence. Prof Sachdeva further said that James Naismith, the father of basketball, introduced the game of basketball as an indoor game in 1891. Basketball made its debut in India in 1930. The main reason for the discovery of basketball was the introduction of a new indoor game in the winter season. Prof Sachdeva congratulated and extended his best wishes to the participants for the championship. President, KU Sports Council, Dr Ashok Kumar, in his address, said the Sports Council, in association with the Directorate of Sports, was working towards the development of sports.

Raveena shines in painting contest

Kaithal: Raveena, a student of Indira Gandhi (PG) Women's College, Kaithal, has brought laurels to her institution by securing the first position in the on-the-spot painting competition. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,100 along with a certificate. College principal Dr Aarti Garg shared that the District Youth Festival 2024 was organised across various districts under the guidelines of the Directorate of Skill Development and Industrial Training, Haryana. In Kaithal, the festival was hosted at the Industrial Training Institute, where Raveena emerged victorious, outperforming 77 participants to claim the top spot. The president of the College Management Committee, Ram Bahadur Khurania, congratulated Raveena on her outstanding achievement.

MBBS students allotted village families

Panipat: MBBS students of NC Medical College were allotted families in Bandh village under the Family Adoption programme, an initiative of the National Medical Commission in all private and government medical colleges from 2022. The purpose of the step is to make students of medical college capable, qualified and skilled doctors. The programme is being conducted by the department of community medicine of the college.Initially, the families of Balana and Dahar villages have been adopted by the students of 2022 and 2023. As per the programme, five families are assigned to each medical student in the village, which will strengthen the knowledge of the students in medical education.
