Campus Notes: Skit on pneumonia prevention
Panipat: Medical students of NC Medical College, Israna, presented a short skit on the prevention of pneumonia at Madlauda Hospital. Students also participated in the breath training for pneumonia prevention organised in the hospital. Himanshi, Kamakshi Kalda and Kartikeya presented a short drama. Dr Naresh Rathi, Senior Medical Officer of Madlauda Hospital, and his team cooperated in the programme. Dr Mahendra Singh, Dr Sahil, Dr Neelkamal and Vijay Kumar, Health Inspector, were present on the occasion. Dr Swati Jarole, Dr Vedpal and Dr Himani from the Department of Community Medicine also made a special contribution in making this programme a success.
Workshop on developing online course at Maharshi Dayanand University
Rohtak: The Department of Education of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) is organising a two-day international workshop on ‘Designing and developing an online course’. It is being organised under the aegis of the SPARK Project. During the workshop’s inaugural session, Dean, Academic Affairs at MDU, Prof Anoop Singh Maan, said, “Creating effective online courses is a challenge. While designing an online course, it is important to identify the teaching objectives, select target students, prepare appropriate study material and plan the course structure and modules.” Maan also emphasised the role of digital education and importance of various types of online courses such as massive open online courses (MOOCs), specialised courses and certificate courses.
Head, Department of Education, Dr Neeru Rathee, delivered the welcome address. She highlighted the need for the development of online education and the current perspective. Spark Project Coordinator Dr Madhuri Hooda threw light on the theme of the workshop. She said that this workshop would be based on various aspects related to the design and development of online courses. Four technical sessions were organised on the first day of the workshop, in which Prof Rachel Sheffield and Prof Rekha Kaul of Curtin University, Australia, and Prof Naseeb Singh Gill of MDU gave practical information about the introduction to MOOCs, framework, development and structure of MOOCs, and learning management system (LMS). Four technical sessions will also be organised on the second day of the workshop.
Bird-watching workshop at RKSD College
Kaithal: A one-day workshop on ‘Bird-Watching and Basic Ornithology’ was organised by the Department of Zoology, RKSD College, Kaithal, in collaboration with the Bird Count India, Bangalore. Mittal Gala and Samakshi Tiwari from E-Bird India and Birds Count India were the resource persons. Head of the Department of Zoology Gagan Mittal welcomed the speakers and briefed the participants about the importance of environment conservation, citizen science and role of ornithology (study of birds).
Principal Sanjay Goyal shared his own experiences with the students regarding his love for nature and environment conservation. The speaker, Mittal Gala, highlighted the need for the conservation of birds and trained the participants on how to identify a bird using the app “Merlin” and upload data with the help of another app “E-Bird”. The second speaker Samakshi Tiwari trained the participants to use applications like Merlin and eBird to quickly identify birds and upload data with the help of their mobile phones.
