Campus notes: Poster-making competition held
On the occasion of International Science Day, Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Matak Majri, Karnal, organised a national-level poster-making competition. The event was held in collaboration with the college’s mathematics, chemistry, physics, botany, and zoology departments, aiming to promote peace and development through science. The competition, held in a hybrid mode, provided a platform for students from across the country to showcase their talents in various genres. Mukesh and Khushleen Kaur from RKSD College, Kaithal, won the first position in the university and college category, while Simran and Manvi from Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Matak Majri, Karnal, secured the second position, and Riya, from the same college, won the third spot. In the school category, the first place was awarded to Namay Chawla of Greenland Public School, Karnal. The second place was achieved by Mitali from Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School, while the third prize went to Hishu of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Bayana Indri. Principal Dr Rajiv Gupta personally reviewed the artwork presented by the students and commended them for their hard work.
Mahendragarh: The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh, organised a training programme for the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Jant, under the social outreach programme with the objective of providing practical training in biotechnology to rural students. Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the university, emphasised the importance of adopting modern scientific methods and using advanced equipment for the sustainable development of the country. Thirty-three students of the school participated in the event. Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma, Dean Research, said the training would continue over the next 23 weeks, with students from various schools participating each week. By the end of the programme, the CUH aims to have trained 1,000 students, including those in grades XI and XII, as well as undergraduates. Dr Rupesh Deshmukh and Dr Humira Sonah, experts in biotechnology, delivered a comprehensive overview of the DNA extraction process before the students embarked on the hands-on portion of the training. The event was coordinated by Principal Dr Ajay Kumar Parashar and staff members Annu Chahal and Urmila from the Jant school, whose collaboration ensured a smooth and enriching experience for all participants.
