Campus notes: Inter-Zonal Final Youth Fest kicks off

The Inter-Zonal Final Youth Festival of Guru Nanak Dev University began today at the Dashmesh Auditorium. The event opened with an energetic and vibrant Bhangra performance. Prof Palwinder Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs, was the chief guest and inaugurated the festival by lighting lamps, symbolising the illumination of knowledge and creativity. He was joined by Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean of Student Welfare, Dr Amandeep Singh, Incharge of the Youth Welfare Department and other university officials. Dr Amandeep Singh emphasised the festival is not just a celebration of the arts, but also a significant platform for students from various colleges affiliated with the university to showcase their remarkable talents. Over the next three days, the event would feature a wide range of performances, including music, dance, theatre and visual arts. Competitions such as group Shabad bhajan, group song, geet/gazal and folk song would be hosted at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre.

Cedar Spring High students shine

Students from Cedar Spring High School excelled at the Art and Craft Carnival organised by the Amritsar Group of Colleges (AGC). The event, hosted at AGC’s Organic Agro Farm, featured various creative competitions, including poster-making and jewellery-making. Cedar Spring High School students won first place in the jewellery-making competition. The principal, Nitin Verma expressed pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “Our students’ display of talent and skill is a matter of pride.” The success reflects the school’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and creativity.

Karan gets star reader appreciation

DAV College Amritsar has introduced a Star Reader Award to encourage students to spend quality time in the college library. The award recognises students who consistently engage with library resources and cultivate good reading habits. Karan, a BSc Economics student in his fifth semester, was named the Star Reader for October. The principal, Dr Amardeep Gupta praised the initiative, which has significantly improved the students’ reading habits. The award is based on the student’s participation in library activities, behaviour and regular reading. Karan received a certificate of appreciation along with a book as part of the award.
