Ludhiana: HVM Convent Senior Secondary School in Karamsar Colony, New Subhash Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, celebrated a clean and green Diwali with religious fervour. During a special morning assembly, kids performed bhajans and recited poetry in praise of Lord Rama and discussed the importance of celebrating Diwali in an environmentally sustainable manner. ‘Celebrate pollution free Diwali and say no to crackers’ was the slogan of a demonstration for primary school pupils that was conducted on school grounds. For classes III through XII, a variety of additional activities were planned like candle and diya decoration, paper lanterns, toran-making, poster-making, wall-hanging and card-making, including inter-house rangoli making competition.

Modern Sr Sec school

Mannatdeep Singh, a talented cricketer from Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, secured the gold while representing Patiala’s team in the 68th School State Cricket Tournament. Held at Champions Cricket Academy in Mohali, from 22 to 26 October, the tournament featured intense competition among 18 teams from across the state. With Mannatdeep’s exceptional performance, Patiala claimed the top honour. Bathinda finished second, while Ludhiana secured the third place. Mannatdeep’s contribution played a key role in Patiala’s triumph, further highlighting his cricketing prowess.

Guru Nanak International Public School

Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, hosted Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex (Central Zone) solo singing competition on October 28. Gurvinder Singh Sarna, general secretary, and Jasvinder Singh, manager, presided over the competition. The programme commenced with recitation of gurbani to seek the blessings of the Almighty followed by welcome address by Principal Gurmant Kaur Gill. There were two categories — ghazal and semi-classical solo. The competition witnessed an extensive array of participation from 9 schools of the city. A healthy competition was witnessed.

Khalsa College for Women

Charanpreet Kaur and Ishita, students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines brought fame to their alma mater by winning medals in different weight groups during the Panjab University Inter-College Weightlifting Championship, held on the university campus, Chandigarh. Charanpreet bagged the silver and Ishita clinched the bronze. Principal Dr Kamaljit Grewal congratulated the students, Dr Mandeep Kaur, head of the physical education department, and coach Amarjeet Singh on this achievement. She encouraged the students to take an active part in sports to lead a healthy life.

Green Land Convent School

Green Land Convent School, New Subash Nagar, near Basti Jodhewal, proudly celebrated the achievements of its students in the district-level athletics meet. With a total of five medals — two silver and three bronze — the young athletes demonstrated exceptional talent, determination and sportsmanship, bringing pride and recognition to the school. Raunakpreet got selected for the state-level games.
