Amritsar: The drama club of Guru Nanak Dev University and Rangkarmi Manch group of Amritsar staged the play ‘Bhapa ji da trunk’. The performance won the hearts of the audience. The play is written and directed by Manchpreet and presents the serious issues of the present day in a light-hearted manner. The new generation in the desire to get the generational wealth and make their own career, forgetting the human values ??and neglecting their parents and throwing themselves into the fire of loneliness. Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu appreciated the performances of the artists. Amandeep Singh, in-charge, youth welfare, Sunil Kumar, in-charge of the club, Kanwal Randhey, director, and a large number of theatre lovers were present there.

NCC cadets attend firing camp

Amritsar: NCC cadets of Ashok Vatika Public School attended a one-day firing camp at Shri Guru Teg Bahadur School, Amritsar. The camp was organised under the guidance of CO Col Birendra Kumar, 11 Punjab NCC Battalion, Amritsar. Twenty students participated in the training and experienced a unique learning beyond the classroom environment. After returning to school, they shared their experiences with the principal.

SSSS College student clears CS exam

Amritsar: A BCom student of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Manmeet Kaur, has successfully cleared the Company Secretary (CS) examination. Director Jagdish Singh congratulated Manmeet, her parents and teachers on the achievement. Navdeep Kaur, principal, said her achievement would definitely serve as an inspiration to her peers.

‘Anand Maha Utsav’ at GNDU

Amritsar: The music department of GNDU held ‘Anand Maha Utsav’, a festival of performing arts in the department. On this occasion, hymns and felicitations related to the birth of lord Krishna were sung by students of MPA vocal and instrumental and PhD research scholars of the department. The students expressed their faith through musical renditions of hymns and shabads with Murali Manohar, a renowned artist. Sunil Kumar, Dean, Languages, and Head of Hindi Department; Tejinder Gulati, assistant professor, Department of Visual and Performing Arts; Sapna from Department of Hindi and Megha Salwan from Department of Punjabi made special contributions to the occasion.

Free coaching for govt exams

Amritsar: Amritsar Assistant Commissioner Sonam announced that under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative, classes were being started to provide free training to girls for UPSC , PSSSB, PPSC, SSC and IBPS exams for government jobs for the posts of clerk, patwari, police. In these classes, the students will be prepared for written exams and interview. Sharing more information, Amritsar District Employment and Business Bureau Deputy Director Neelam Mahe said under the initiative, District Employment and Business Bureau was already conducting free coaching classes for girls to prepare them for government jobs. Some students had passed the civil services preliminary examinations as well, she said. Only girls with graduation pass can apply for the classes.
