Campus notes: GNDU Regional Campus winz bronze
A team from Guru Nanak Dev University Regional Campus, Jalandhar, comprising Saksham Parmar, Kartik, Saksham Sharma, Keshav, Rupal and Shivaansh, earned a bronze medal in badminton under the guidance of team manager Jasjeet Singh at the Inter-College Sports Tournament organised by GNDU, Amritsar. The tournament was held at Doaba College, Jalandhar, on October 9. Dr Rupam Jagota, Dean of Guru Nanak Dev University Regional Campus, Jalandhar, congratulated the players, commending their hard work and dedication, and wishing them continued success in their athletic pursuits. The achievement underscores the university’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship and excellence among its students.
Dasehra celebrated
Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated Dussehra with enthusiasm under Principal AK Sharma. Vice-principal Aarti Shorey Bhat as well as the staff and students were also present. On the occasion, students showcased their creativity through poems, dance and a short drama related to the festival of Dussehra and expressed thoughts regarding the victory of good over evil so that they could become a source of inspiration for society. Through a short drama, students of the school dramatised ways of eliminating evils like greed, lust, anger, ego, avarice, superstition, sin and hatred within every human being and the process of inculcating love, goodwill, unity, brotherhood, honesty and truth, setting a powerful social example for their peers and community. Principal AK Sharma emphasised on the message that individuals have the power to overcome their inner demons. He stated that one can “destroy Ravana” by conquering ego and negativity, while also reminding students of the importance of humility and compassion. The event concluded with the symbolic burning of three effigies (representing greed, love, goodwill and brotherhood) by the Principal and Saarthak, a student of Class III, dressed as Lord Rama.
Physiotherapy Day observed
To mark the Physiotherapy Day, a guest lecture was organised on the theme ‘Physiotherapy and Sports’ in Lyallpur Khalsa College. Delivering the lecture, the chief speaker Dr Maman Pol from the Department of Physiotherapy, Guru Nanak Dev University, said that physiotherapy could play a key role in dealing with sports injuries and its importance was rapidly being recognised in the field of sports medicine. Thanking the keynote speaker, college principal Dr Jaspal Singh said that physiotherapy could offer job opportunities to the students. He said that many orthopaedic problems could be managed easily with physiotherapy. A T-shirt painting competition was organised on the occasion in which teams led by Deepjyot Nishita and Gurpreet secured the second and third position, respectively. The event was witnessed by senior teachers of the college and of the department.
