Campus notes: Freshers’ Fiesta organised
Amritsar: BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, extended a warm welcome to the new batch of students by organising Freshers’ Fiesta at Urvi Auditorium. The programme was presided over by Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia. The senior students of the college warmly welcomed the new batch with a series of performances, including music, songs and dance. The highlight of the event was a fashion show, where the participants showcased not just their style but also their intellect, truly embodying the essence of beauty with brains. The Principal honoured the winners of the talent hunt competitions held by various departments of the college. Niharika Malhotra received the title of Miss Confident, while Manya Khanna from got the title of Miss BBK Elegant. Anjali was crowned Miss BBK Freshers 2024.
Taekwondo competition winners
Amritsar: Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School participated in the CISCE National Taekwondo competition organised in Coimbatore. Four students from the school participated in the contest. Sehajdeep Kaur and Kritika won bronze medals in the under-14 and under-17 categories, respectively. Principal Neetu Sharma lauded the efforts of the students and added that they have brought laurels to the school at the national level. President Balbir Bajaj congratulated the winners and wished them a prosperous future.
CKD to open Gurmat College
Amritsar: As per directions of president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, the Chief Khalsa Diwan observed the 450th centenary of Gurtagaddi celebrations of Guru Ramdas and Jyoti Jyot Divas of Guru Amardas at Diwan Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib. Chief Khalsa Diwan secretary Sukhjinder Singh Prince said the real purpose of celebrating the Sikh religious days is to join the sangat and make the children aware of their heritage and to inspire them to follow the religious path. He said a Gurmat College in Central Khalsa Orphanage is already being run very successfully by the CKD and another college, dedicated to the 450th centenary of the Gurus, will be opened by the CKD at Sri Goindwal Sahib, the hub of Sikhism. Giani Rajdeep Singh shed light on the way of life to connect with spirituality, while fulfilling the worldly responsibilities.
DAV students visit Taj Hotel
Amritsar: The students of Yuva Tourism Society, Travel and Tourism Department of DAV College, Amritsar, visited Hotel Taj Swarna. The HR Department of the hotel welcomed all the students and the faculty. Hotel resourceperson, Somnath, who initiated this visit with an interactive session, informed the students about 14 different sections of the hotel. While addressing the students, Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta appreciated and acknowledged the efforts made by the Travel and Tourism Department, and he encouraged the students to look forward for other opportunities so that the students can pursue their career in this professional industry.
Lecture on Investor awareness
Amritsar: The Commerce Department of Pandit Mohan Lal SD College for Girls, Fatehgarh Churian, hosted an extension lecture on Investor Awareness Programme. Principal Pradeep Kaur said the resourceperson for the lecture was Prof Bhagwant Singh, teacher educator at DIET, Gurdaspur and Amritsar. With 10 years of experience in his field, Singh shared insights into the SEBI guidelines and made students aware about financial planning, strategies, investment, banking and risk factors of investing in the stock market. The Principal thanked the resourceperson and appreciated the efforts by faculty members — Dr Ruchi Kohli, HOD, Commerce Department; Prof Lovepreet Kaur; and Prof Prabhjot Kaur — for organising the insightful session.
