Jalandhar: A state-level DAV Sports Tournament was organised at Police DAV Public School under the guidance of Principal Dr Rashmi Vij. As many as 756 players of archery, wrestling, judo, roller-skating, hockey, shooting, gymnastics and swimming from DAV schools of Punjab participated in the tournament. The players took part in various categories like Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19. Principal Dr Rashmi Vij motivated the players to continue their efforts so as to achieve success in future as well.

Founder’s Day celebrated

Jalandhar: Founder’s Day was celebrated at Apeejay School, Model Town, in memory of Dr Stya Paul, founder of the Apeejay Education Society, on his 105th birthday. Officiating principal Priyanka Grover, along with Headmistress Namrata Sharma and parents, paid tribute by lighting lamps and offering floral tributes. A video related to Stya Paul’s life was shown to the children. Some of Dr Stya Paul’s favourite bhajans, such as “Vishwapati Ke Dhyan” and “Ishwar Allah Tero Naam,” were rendered by the school students. The announcement of the “Human Values Award” in honour of Dr Stya Paul was made on the occasion. The award for the middle classes was announced for Arish Saini from the eighth grade, and for the secondary classes, the award was given to Aastha from the ninth grade. A painting competition was organised for the students. A social service project dedicated to Dr Stya Paul, titled “Dil Se Dil Tak Dastak Ehsaas Ki Muhim,” was also launched.

AI fest for school students

Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus (LKCTC) organised a state-level AI Fest, in collaboration with IIT Delhi. The Virtual Labs project is a consortium activity of 12 participating institutes and IIT Delhi is the coordinating institute. It aims to instill curiosity among the students. The event drew over 100 registrations from around 25 schools across the region, with participants also joining from neighbouring states. The fest featured exciting events, including an AI Tech Talk by industry experts, a creative “You Imagine, We Make” themed poster-making competition, and an AI Quiz Wiz. Dr Krishna Pal Sharma, Assistant Professor at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, and Simar Preet Singh, a full-stack developer, led the talk. They provided valuable insights into the application of AI in fields such as machine learning, drone technology and front-end web development. In the AI Quiz Wiz, the team “Sophia” consisting of Utkarsh and Saksham Maini from Class 9 of Swami Sant Dass Public School, secured the first prize.

Blood donation camp

Jalandhar: The NSS Club of Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions, in collaboration with Pahal, an NGO, organised a blood donation camp at the institute. The teachers, students, members of the institutions, all volunteered to donate blood for a noble cause. Dr Anup Bowry, Chairman of Innocent Hearts Group, commended the initiative during his address. He said, “The institution regularly organises such camps and will keep looking out for such activities. Blood donation is a great act of charity that can save lives, and we are committed to promote this vital cause.” The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all the donors, who were appreciated with certificates and mementos for their contribution.

Medical symposium

Jalandhar: A medical symposium was organised by the CT Institutes in which about 30 leading doctors participated. The event was inaugurated by Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, and Dr Deepak Chawla, IMA president and general surgeon from Chawla Hospital. Keynote speakers included Dr Shubhang Aggarwal (orthopedic surgeon, NHS), Dr Damanbir Chahal (urologist, Kidney Hospital), and Dr Ishan (oncology, Patel Hospital). Their insights enriched the discussions, focusing on the latest developments in their respective fields, further elevating the academic value of the event. The symposium aimed to provide students from allied healthcare departments with insights in modern advancements.

International Programmers Day

Jalandhar: The PG Department of Computer Science and IT of HMV College celebrated International Programmer’s Day by organising a series of competitions to showcase the talent of its students. The event witnessed participation in multiple categories, including web development using HTML/JavaScript, programming using C/C++ and office automation using MS Word. Over a 100 students took part. In the web development competition, Bhavya, Mehak and Surbhi from BCA Semester V outshone others by securing the first position with their innovative project designs and coding skills. Kanishka and Tiya from BCA Semester III stood first in programming using C/C++ competition. In the office automation category, Hitika Arora and Navina Sharma from BCA Semester I stood first. TNS
