Campus notes: BBK DAV College for Women
The students of the Red Cross Unit of BBK DAV College for Women and BBK DAV Collegiate School, Amritsar, won the overall championship trophies at the Youth Red Cross Day celebrations organised by the Punjab State Red Cross Branch at Anandpur Sahib, from September 19 to 21. The celebrations were held to pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of Bhai Ghanayia. The college team won the first prize in folk song, first aid demonstration, group song, poem recitation and quiz. Additionally students from BBK DAV Collegiate School secured the first spot in poster-making and first aid demonstration and the second position in poem recitation, folk song, group song and quiz. Principal Pushpinder Walia congratulated the young achievers and motivated them to keep up the good work.
Spring Dale school
Amritsar: Inter-house matches for cricket, football, badminton, volleyball and basketball were held to mark Dr Shivinder Singh Sandhu Memorial Cup at Spring Dale School. The event concluded on Monday with a tribute to late Dr Shivinder Singh Sandhu, while the Spring Dale family was commemorating the birthday of their mentor. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said sports had been an integral part of the teaching-learning methodology practiced at Spring Dale. “He undertook efforts to restore the pride of the national game and revive Hockey to its pristine glory and his efforts are finally bearing fruit now that the national game has reclaimed its charm among the youth,” he said. Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema, director, Spring Dale Educational Society, said the vision of Dr Sandhu would keep guiding the Spring Dale family. Gulmohar house won the overall trophy.
EXCELSUM HIGH Sr sec school
Amritsar: EXCELSUM HIGH Senior Secondary School organised its annual science exhibition on September 28. The event drew a diverse crowd of enthusiastic visitors who were eager to explore the wonders of science. The exhibition featured an impressive range of interactive displays, engaging demonstrations and informative presentations that captivated attendees, sparking curiosity and fascination in both children and adults, while showcasing the rapid advancements in technology. One of the most popular attractions was the environmental science exhibit, which focused on sustainability and conservation efforts. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about renewable energy sources, waste management strategies and the importance of preserving biodiversity. Director-Principal Gunita Grewal praised the efforts of the students and organisers, emphasising the exhibition’s role in fostering curiosity, creativity and critical thinking among students.
Khalsa college of Education
Amritsar: Khalsa College of Education (KCE), GT Road, Amritsar, was awarded the A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The premier teacher education institution was established in 1954. It is running under the aegis of Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC). The institute underwent a rigorous fourth cycle of accreditation recently and earned the distinction. KCGC president Satyajit Singh Majithia and secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna congratulated the college Principal, Khushvinder Kumar, as well as the members of the faculty and the students for the achievement. The principal said the NAAC peer team comprised chairperson Kaplesh Kumar Pathak, VC, Indian Institute of Teacher Education Adarshlata Singh, Professor from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Maharashtra and Dr D Siva Kumar, Principal, Thriuvalluvar Teacher Education, Tamil Nadu. They interacted with members of the management committee, students, teachers, alumni and parents. The team conducted a thorough review of records of all the clubs, committees and the IQAC cell of the institution.
DAV college
Amritsar: The Institution’s Innovation Council, in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, organised a seminar on ‘Entrepreneurial Success for SC Students’ at DAV College, Amritsar. Principal Amardeep Gupta said the event aimed to empower and encourage students from the Scheduled Castes community to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and access various financial schemes available for them. Keynote speaker Atharva Poundarik gave a detailed presentation on the various government and private sector schemes tailored for SC students, including startup funding, skill development programmes and mentorship opportunities. He also provided insights into accessing financial assistance and navigating the startup ecosystem. Dr Deepak Kapoor, senior scientist, PSCST, Chandigarh, introduced the concept of startups by focusing on the different aspects of entrepreneurship. The event saw an enthusiastic response, with over 200 students from different colleges and schools participating.
