Amritsar: A student of Ashok Vatika Public School class 11 won second position in taekwondo in the recently held 68th Punjab State Inter-School Games in Pathankot. There were 350 participants in the competition that was held in Cambridge International School, Pathankot. She was proudly welcomed in the school for showing her determination, prowess and consistency for the sport of taekwondo. Principal Anchal Mahajan congratulated the player on her success and appreciated her for the victory. She encouraged the other students also to show their skills and capabilities. She also highlighted the fact that the school always guides the students in such a way that they create history through their actions.
Audio lessons recorded
Amritsar: In a commendable initiative aimed at empowering the visually impaired, the NSS volunteers of DAV College, Amritsar, organised a recording session for audio lessons at Andh Vidhayala (Institution for the Blind) at Lohgarh Gate. The project was part of the ongoing efforts by NSS to support education for the underprivileged and specially-abled students. This information was shared by Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta. Dr Gupta informed that during the activity, volunteers dedicated their time and skills to record textbooks, reference materials and educational content in audio format, making these resources more accessible to students with visual impairment. NSS Officer Prof Savita appreciated the efforts of the volunteers and programme officers and emphasised the importance of inclusivity in education, stating that the initiative aims to bridge the gap in educational resources and ensure that every student, regardless of his/her abilities, has access to quality learning material.
NCC officials visit schools
Gurdaspur: Group Commander of NCC Amritsar Brig KS Bawa, CO of 1 Punjab Girls Battalion Col Kirtidev Jadeja, CO of 1 Punjab Boys Battalion Col Bal, Col Ajay Sharma, CO, 7 Punjab Battalion and Col Vishar Mago, CO, 22 Punjab Battalion visited various camps and institutions during an outreach programme this week and interacted with over 450 cadets. The outreach programme began with the Group Commander’s visit to 22 Punjab Battalion NCC camp at Dhyanpur, where he interacted with the cadets and supervised their training activities. After this, 1 Punjab Girls Battalion and 1 Punjab Boys Battalion visited two Army attachment camps at Tibri Military Station. The cadets had the opportunity to live with some of the best units of the Army and were exposed to new generation weapon systems, drone flying, horse riding, self-defence, sports and adventure activities, golf and rock-climbing, among other activities. In addition, the cadets watched inspiring patriotic films. The Group Commander visited Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gurdaspur and Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College, Dinanagar.
Inter-School Talent Hunt held
Amritsar: Global Group of Institutes hosted a two-day Inter-School Talent Hunt Festival ‘Srishti 2024’ on October 24-25 for the students of senior secondary classes from various schools in Amritsar, Batala, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts. Chairman of the Global Group of Institutes, Dr BS Chandi shared that 1,000 students from 30 teams representing CBSE and ICSE schools of the region, participated in various events. The events included science quiz, dumb charades, poster-making, science working models, face painting, Just-a-Minute, cake-making, group discussion, solo singing and group dance. The winners were awarded cash prizes totalling over Rs 1 lakh along with trophies and certificates. The overall trophy of ‘Srishti-2024 was captured by Holy Heart Presidency School, Amritsar, while DAV Public School, Amritsar were declared second in the Inter-School Talent Hunt Fest. Chief guest Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, distributed prizes to the winners.
