Bypolls to 6 RS seats in 4 states on December 20
The Election Commission today announced the byelections to six Rajya Sabha seats in Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal on December 20. The results will be declared the same day.
The bypolls to the six seats in the Upper House in the four states were necessitated following the resignation of the members — Krishan Lal Panwar (Haryana), Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi, Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav and Ryaga Krishnaiah (all Andhra Pradesh), Sujeet Kumar (Odisha) and Jawahar Sircar (West Bengal).
Panwar of the BJP had quit his Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana following his election as an MLA in the recent Assembly elections.
Three vacancies were created in Andhra Pradesh when YSRCP members Mopidevi, Yadav and Krishnaiah quit their membership in August. The terms of Yadav and Krishnaiah as Rajya Sabha members were to end on June 21, 2028, while Mopidevi was to retire on June 21, 2026.
