The BJP today formally started its activities for the Gidderbaha bypoll. Senior BJP leader and party in-charge for Gidderbaha Avinash Rai Khanna today held a meeting with party leaders from Muktsar and neighbouring districts on the outskirts of Gidderbaha town.

He said: “Haryana election results have boosted the morale of BJP workers in Punjab. Though we could not win any Lok Sabha seat in Punjab, our vote percentage was much more than the SAD. Our cadre even participated in the panchayat elections vigorously. We will contest the bypoll on issues like failure of the state government in maintaining law and order, poor infrastructure in health and education sectors and government being run from Delhi.”

On party candidate from Gidderbaha, Khanna said: “The parliamentary board of the party will decide the candidate soon.” Former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, who is being seen as likely candidate for the bypoll, said: “We started our activities on the ground around two months ago. It was my destiny that I left Gidderbaha. However, now I am active here again.”

About his candidature, he said: “The BJP senior leadership will decide the candidate. It’s not like the Akali Dal, where the decisions are taken by one man.”
