SEBI chief likely to appear before key parliamentary committee on October 24
Embattled SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch is likely to appear before the high profile parliamentary panel — the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) — on October 24. The panel which is headed by Congress MP KC Venugopal, has also summoned representatives of the Economic Affairs Department of the Finance Ministry on the same day.
Though the panel mainly scrutinises the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and the appropriation accounts of the government, sources informed that if the Chairperson desired then a person from any of the departments could be summoned.
Sources added Buch was likely to be summoned during the next meeting of the PAC on October 24.
Buch has been accused of conflict of interest and allegations by the opposition Congress over payments made to her by her former employer ICICI Bank, something which she has denied. Meanwhile the financial committee has also summoned, on the same day, the officials of the Finance Ministry, to seek their submissions on the performance review of regulatory bodies set up by the Act of Parliament, sources said.
