Senior counsel and former Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi on Wednesday said neither Gautam Adani nor his nephew had been accused of violating the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) or obstructing justice in the indictment filed by the US prosecutors in a bribery case.

Rohatgi said the indictment refers to the allegations of Adanis bribing Indian entities to secure solar power contracts, but it does not detail specific instances of bribery. The AG said, “In the indictment by the US court, there are five charges — of which Count 1 and Count 5 are more important. But neither in Count 1 nor Count 5 is Adani or his nephew charged.”

Earlier, in a stock filing to the exchanges, Adani Group Energy Limited refuted bribery allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and MD CEO Adani Green Energy Vneet Jaain.
