BSF DG briefed on drone threat, smuggling of drugs

The Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated the 78th Independence Day with fervour at the Attari-Wagah joint check post on Thursday.
Sweets exchanged with Pak rangers
- The BSF exchanged sweets with the Pakistan Rangers on Independence Day
- Indian officials gave seven boxes of sweets along with fruits to their Pakistan counterparts
- On August 14, Pakistan Rangers had exchanged sweets to mark their Independence Day
Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Director General, BSF, who was the chief guest on the occasion, hoisted the national flag at the BSF headquarters in Khasa. Extending greetings to the citizens, he paid a rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.
Accompanied by IG Punjab Frontier Dr Atul Fulzele and other senior officers, he attended the Independence Day event at the JCP where students from several schools and colleges performed bhangra and giddha.
The Border Lion Drill Squad (BOLDS) and the BSF Prahari brass band left thousands of spectators spellbound.
The entire atmosphere was charged with the patriotic fervour as the people were seen dancing on patriotic songs. The spectators also witnessed beating the retreat ceremony.
Earlier, the DG held a meeting with senior BSF officers of the Punjab Frontier. He was briefed about the threats being faced by use of drones to smuggle contraband and measures taken by the BSF to safeguard the 537 km of border along Pakistan.
He also visited forward areas, reviewed tactical measures adopted on the ground, besides interacting with the village defence committees.
