Haryana DSP Surender Singh's Brutal death leaves kin, villagers shocked

Hailing from this small village, located about 45 km from the district headquarters, DSP Surender Singh had visited his ancestral village about a week ago. The cop, who was to retire in Ocober, was planning to restart farming in his ancestral village.
Villagers were shocked on hearing the news about Surender’s death in such a tragic manner. “I got a message about some accident. When I called his number, it went unanswered. Then I called my elder brother and he broke the tragic news of his death,” said Subhash Singh, his younger brother. A panchayat member Om Prakash said that the news has spread like wildfire in the village.
Surender’s elder brother, Dr Makhan Singh, who recently retired as professor from Government College, said Surender had shared his plans to join the family occupation of farming in his ancestral village. “He was excited about his post retirement plans. We are basically a peasants’ family and own agricultural land in the village. We have ancestral house located in dhani in our fields at some distance from our village,” Dr Singh said, adding that though he had constructed a house in Kurukshetra as most of the time he was posted in Kurukshetra. He has got recruited as ASI and has risen to the ranks of the DSP.
The villagers said Surender was known as an upright and honest officer. Another villager said Surender Singh’s son was in Canada and likely to land tomorrow in Delhi.
CM declares slain DSP a martyr
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has declared the slain DSP as a martyr. He also announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a job for his kin. The Chief Minister said Surender sacrificed his life while investigating an illegal case. He did this while performing his duty with bravery and honesty.
