A brazen shooting incident occurred in broad daylight in the Nalagarh industrial area today, exposing the deteriorating law and order situation. An unidentified miscreant fired multiple shots at a moving Fortuner car, belonging to local scrap dealer Ramkrishen in Dadi Kaniya village near Khera around 4.30 pm. Fortunately, Ramkrishen escaped unharmed due to his bulletproof vehicle.

The assailant seemed to have conducted reconnaissance, targeting the driver’s side of the car, believing Ramkrishen was sitting there. The incident took place about a kilometre from the Baddi-Nalagarh highway. The miscreant wore a fluorescent half-jacket, commonly worn by road construction workers, and covered his face with a cloth. He fled the scene and remains at large.

Ramkrishen, a resident of nearby Malpur village, was travelling to Ropar via the arterial road to avoid highway traffic jams. He is a scrap dealer and transporter. The Nalagarh police, led by SHO Rakesh Roy, collected empty cartridges and forensic experts examined the site. Preliminary reports indicate at least five rounds were fired.

Ramkrishen’s brother, Pola Ram, revealed that his brother had previously faced security threats and received police protection, which was later withdrawn. Additional SP Baddi Ashok Verma confirmed that an investigation has begun, and forensic experts have scrutinised the scene. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.

Nalagarh MLA Hardeep Bawa had expressed concerns about illegal arms in the area, posing a threat to law and order. However, the police have yet to take decisive action against these illegal activities, reflecting their lax approach.
