Gulveer Singh wins 5,000m gold in Challenge Cup

India’s Gulveer Singh on Saturday set a new national record en route to winning the men’s 5,000m gold in the Yogibo Athletics Challenge Cup of World Athletics Continental Tour at Niigata, Japan. Gulveer, a bronze winner at last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games, clocked 13:11.82 seconds to win the gold in the World Athletics’ bronze level meet.

Musheer Khan stable after mishap, set to miss Irani Cup

Mumbai all-rounder Musheer Khan, younger brother of India batter Sarfaraz, is "stable" after suffering a road accident on the outskirts of Lucknow but is set to miss cricketing action for a prolonged period starting with the upcoming Irani Cup. The 19-year-old is expected to be out of action for at least three months due to neck injuries he sustained in the accident, effectively ruling him out of Mumbai’s matches at the start of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, starting from October 11.

Bopanna-Dodig pair out of China Open in first round

Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig suffered a shock loss to the pair of Francisco Cerundolo and Nicolas Jarry in a first round match of the China Open ATP 500 tournament here on Saturday. The second-seeded Indo-Croatian pair lost 5-7 6-7 to the unseeded Cerundolo (Argentina) and Jarry (Chile) duo in the round of 16 match that lasted one hour 31 minutes.

Impact Player rule to continue for IPL 2025 season

The IPL Governing Council which was convened here on Saturday decided to continue with the hotly-debated Impact Player rule for the IPL 2025 season. Since its introduction, the rule has vertically divided the opinion. Even in the meeting the BCCI had with the team owners earlier this July, some franchises like Delhi Capitals were in favour of the rule, primarily because it reduced the importance of the all-rounders.
