Varinder Kumar, a resident of Pakhowal Road, Phagwara, died on the spot while his wife Rajwinder Kaur and their two children, Abhinav and Ranveer, sustained injuries when their car collided with a truck on the Jamalpur flyover. They were returning from Amritsar after paying obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib. After initial treatment at the Civil Hospital, they were transferred to Ludhiana, where Rajwinder's condition is reported to be critical. The car was speeding when it collided with the truck. The truck driver fled the scene.

Panchayat elected unanimously

Phagwara: In a display of unity, residents of Sikri village unanimously elected the new panchayat. Addressing a gathering, Bharti Kisan Mazdoor Union Punjab's vice-president Amrik Singh Sikri said the panchayat was chosen to ensure the development of the village. Two booked for duping

Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police have registered a case against a man and his sister for allegedly cheating Rs 3 lakh in the pretext of sending a youth abroad. According to information, Rajinder Singh, a resident of Kotla Nodh Singh village, told the police that Talwinder Kaur, a resident of Basant Vihar, Hoshiarpur, along with her brother Arjun Singh, allegedly cheated him of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Harkabal Singh to the UK. Migrant's bike, phone snatched

Phagwara: The police have booked three miscreants on the charge of snatching a migrant's motorcycle and mobile phone. Jai Kishan Mehta of Bihar and presently living at Koharr Kalan village complained to the police that he was returning home on September 21 night when three motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched his motorcycle and a phone near Meaney Wal Arariyeen village. oc

2 booked for kidnapping

Phagwara: The police have booked a youth and his father on the charge of kidnapping a minor. The accused had been identified as Parmindar Singh of Baupur village and his father Amarjit Singh. Gurcharan Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused kidnapped his minor daughter on September 26 on the pretext of marriage. A case has been registered. oc

Man arrested with heroin

Hoshiarpur: The police arrested a man for smuggling during a naka in the area and seized 26 gram of heroin and drug money of Rs 20,000 from him. The accused has been identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Langeri Road, Mahilpur. A case has been registered against him.
