India’s woman trap shooter Aashima Ahlawat finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a medal by virtue of having a higher bib number, on the penultimate day of the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru. She was by far the best Indian on show on the day, which had both the men’s and women’s trap finals on the roster.

Sinner and Alcaraz advance in Shanghai Masters
Top-ranked Jannik Sinner overcame a one set deficit to rally to a 6-7(3) 6-4 6-2 win against Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Shanghai Masters. A night after winning his 250th career match with a straight-set victory, the 23-year-old Italian faced a much sterner third-round examination against the No. 37-ranked Argentine under the roof due to rain. Fifth-ranked Daniil Medvedev also came from behind for a 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory against Matteo Arnaldi. Second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz, who won the China Open on Wednesday for his fourth title of the year, defeated Chinese player Wu Yibing 7-6(5) 6-3.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bundesliga top scorer Omar Marmoush scored twice, with his stoppage time equaliser snatching a 3-3 home draw against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich. Bayern now have 14 points and lead the standings on goal difference ahead of RB Leipzig.

Vinicius to miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers
Brazil forward Vinicius Jr will miss their World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Peru due to injury, the Brazilian FA (CBF) said on Sunday, making him the fourth player to be replaced in the squad. Vinicius suffered a neck injury during Real Madrid’s 2-0 home win against Villarreal on Saturday, the club said. Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira has been called up to replace him, the CBF said in a statement.

Juventus held by Cagliari in front of watching Paul Pogba
It was another chaotic day for Juventus on Sunday. A late Razvan Marin penalty saw visitors Cagliari rescue a 1-1 draw in Serie A. That was the first goal Juventus had conceded in the league this season. Much of the talk before the match had been about midfielder Paul Pogba’s four-year ban for doping being reduced to 18 months on Friday. Pogba, who will be free to resume his career in March, was watching from the stands.
