Brief: Two held for drug peddling
Hoshiarpur: The police arrested three for 'smuggling' and recovered a huge quantity of drugs from them. The police during patrolling stopped a bike rider near village Padrana and searched him and seized 115 gram of heroin from him. The police also seized the bike of the accused. The accused has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, alias Lali, of Haryana. In other case, the police stopped a car in village Ghorawaha and during its search recovered 3 kg opium. Police arrested accused Rhythm Sharma of Jalandhar and seized the car. oc
6 booked for abetting suicide
Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against six persons including the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law for abetment to a woman's suicide. Mahinderpal of Jalandhar said Yogita Rani was married to Sanjeev Kumar, son of Devraj, of Chabbewal. After marriage, Yogita's husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her for more dowry. Due to which he ended her life by consuming poisonous medicine. oc
Two theft cases come to fore
Hoshiarpur: The police have registered two cases against some persons on the charge of theft. Aarti Rana told the police that thieves stole utensils, ration and other valuables from the Anganwadi Centre in Railway Mandi School. While Sumir Soni, a resident of Adarsh Colony, Hajipur, told the police that thieves stole gold and silver jewellery and cash from his house. oc
Drug peddler arrested
Phagwara: The city police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 220 intoxicant tablets from his possession last night. The accused, identified as Manish, a resident of Nigaha Mohalla, Phagwara, was nabbed by the cops at the check-point near Jain Model School. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the arrested peddler. oc

Phagwara: The police arrested a drug smuggler on Tuesday night and seized 23 gm of heroin from him. The accused, identified as Rajesh, a resident of Jalandhar Cantt, was apprehended at a checkpoint near Gaunspur. In another case, the police nabbed two thieves and recovered a stolen scooter. SP Bhatti revealed that the accused, Ashwini, a resident of Khotrra village, and Raju, from Mehli village, were arrested last night. oc

Phagwara: Kunal Sharma, a city-based philanthropist and managing director of Spartan Sports, was recently felicitated by the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) for his outstanding contributions to sports and youth empowerment.
