Brief: Man dies, wife hurt in mishap
A man died and his wife was injured in a road accident on the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road. The couple was returning after attending a wedding ceremony. Gurb Singh, a resident of Chagran, told the police that his son Amandeep Singh was returning with his wife from village Taragarh after attending a wedding. He said when they reached near Nasrala, they were hit by a trolley passing by and both were injured. After the incident, he took both of them to a hospital where the doctors declared his son dead while his daughter-in-law is undergoing treatment. The police have registered a case against accused driver Shamsher Singh, resident of Khusropur.
Three booked for theft
Hoshiarpur: The police have booked three persons in a theft case. Rakesh Singh, a resident of village Baguwal of district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, told the police that he was a contractor for government works. He told the police that he was working on making a ramp in the choe of village Dihana. He said the accused working there, Sarjadin, alias Raju, Hasan and Karmadin Karma, allegedly stole six iron channels. The police have started further action.
3 booked for molestation
Hoshiarpur: The police have booked three persons for behaving indecently with a woman. According to information, Amandeep Kaur, a resident of village Bassi Babu Khan, told the police that Sukhpal Singh and Fauji, residents of village Dhoot Kalan and Bahadurpur resident Boota, were throwing stones at her house. When she tried to stop them, the accused allegedly misbehaved with her and tore her clothes. The police have registered a case against the accused.
Domestic help booked in theft
Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against a domestic help on the charge of stealing cash and jewellery from a house. Raghveer Singh, a resident of village Kaulpur, told the police that the female domestic help working in his house of Bindu Devi, resident of Kaulpur, allegedly stole cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 1.10 lakh from his house. The incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the house. After registering the case, the police have started the next action.
Sarpanchs take oath of office
Hoshiarpur: Minister of Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Ravjot Singh, administering the oath of office to 9,314 panchs and sarpanchs of 1,403 panchayats of the district, said along with the development of villages, panchayats should also come forward and play an active role in eradicating social evils. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the local Lajwanti Stadium. Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Rouri appealed to them to play an important role for the eradicating of social problems in the villages.
Man held for kidnapping
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a Ludhiana resident (juvenile) on the charge of kidnapping and extortion. Investigating Officer (IO) Sulindar Singh said the accused had been identified as Sundar Singh alias Jashan Singh, a resident of Haidar Nagar under Kumkalan police station in Ludhiana. Jagtar Singh, a resident of Bahmanai village, had complained to the police that the accused and his elder brother and their unidentified accomplices had kidnapped his brother Jagjit Singh (50) on November 30, kept him in illegal custody, and forced him to pay Rs 1.92 lakh. The IO said that a case under Sections 140(3) and 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) besides Section 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against the accused, his brother and their unidentified accomplices.
1 nabbed for brewing liquor
Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a villager on the charge of brewing and selling illicit liquor. Investigating Officer (IO) Janak Raj said that 18 bottles of illicit liquor, 160 kilograms of lahan (raw liquor) utensils and other items used in the process of brewing the liquor illegally were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Jaswant Singh, a resident of Littran village. IO Janak Raj said that a case under Section 61, 1 and 14 of the Punjab Excise Act had been registered against the accused.
Five booked for assault
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked five persons on the charge of assaulting a youth. Investigating Officer (IO) Harwindar Singh said that the accused had been identified as Balvir Singh and Ajay Kumar, both residents of Mehatpur town, Babbi and Rakesh, residents of Udhowal village, and Kalu, a resident of Ramu Wal village. Davindar Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Mehatpur, complained to the police that the five accused had assaulted him and seriously injured him on November 28. The IO said that a case under Section 115(2), 118(1), 191(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita had been registered against the five accused persons .
