Bride-to-be among 3 shot dead by assailants in Punjab's Ferozepur

Three people were killed and two injured as assailants opened fire in the city area here on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Jaspreet Kaur (26), Dildeep Singh (21) and Akashdeep Singh, while those injured as Anmoldeep Singh (24) and Harpreet Singh, all residents of the city area.

They belonged to the same family.

Sources said Jaspreet was to get married next month and they were going in their car to invite their relatives.

Around 12.15 pm, when they reached near Gurdwara Sri Akalgarh Sahib, a few assailants who were riding two bikes, reached there and opened fire on the car.

According to police, six assailants fired around 50 rounds. While Jaspreet died on the spot, Dildeep and Akashdeep succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital. Anmolpreet was referred to Ludhiana while Harpreet is undergoing treatment at a local hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

Police said one of the deceased, Dildeep, had crime history.

SSP Saumya Mishra said police teams had been formed to nab the accused.

As per the preliminary investigation, an old rivalry seems to be behind the crime, said a police official.
