Bride injured in celebratory firing: Dakha police meet banquet owners

After a bride suffered a bullet injury during the marriage ceremony in Ferozepur, taking immediate precautionary measures, DSP, Dakha, Varinder Singh Khosa, convened an urgent meeting with owners and managers of marriage palaces in the Dakha sub-division on Monday.

While addressing mediapersons, the DSP said the state government had imposed a complete ban on display and carrying of weapons in marriage palaces. However, due to the Sunday’s incident at the Ferozepur marriage palace where during a celebratory firing, bullet hit the bride and she was fighting for her life at a hospital, he held a meeting with owners of banquet halls. They were told to read instructions of the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Punjab, and directed them to follow the same in letter and in spirit.

“They have been instructed that carrying and display of weapons in marriage parties or other functions is strictly prohibited. Therefore, in the upcoming wedding season, the owners and managers of marriage palaces should take special care that no person coming to such functions should bring weapons and if any person carries the same, they should call the police and action would be taken against the offender,” Khosa said.

He appealed to people to not to carry weapons in weddings and other functions and if somebody was found displaying arms, the offender would be prosecuted. If the owners of banquets fail to follow the instructions, they might also face legal action.
