Book on Sultanpur Lodhi’s heritage released
A book titled ‘Sultanpur Lodhi: Duja Nankana Sahib’ by Dr Assa Singh Ghuman was formally launched during an event to mark the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The book, published by European Punjabi Sath, Walsall, delves into the historical and spiritual significance of Sultanpur Lodhi, a site deeply tied to Guru Nanak’s early life and divine revelations.
The book release ceremony was led by Rajya Sabha member and environmental activist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal at Nirmal Kutia, on the banks of the Kali Bein in Sultanpur Lodhi. The event marked a significant effort to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings and preserve the Sikh heritage.
Organised by Mukhtiar Singh Chandi, general secretary of the Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Sultanpur Lodhi, the ceremony drew prominent scholars, historians and community leaders.
Notable attendees included former Punjab Bhasha Vibhag director Chetan Singh, historian Dr Paramjit Singh Mansa and authors such as Dr Bhupinder Kaur, advocate Kulbir Singh and Kulwinder Kanwal.
Seechewal emphasised the importance of sustained research and preservation of Sikh heritage sites, urging collective efforts to protect cultural landmarks.
Dr Ghuman shared insights into the meticulous research behind his book, while Sarai, chief sanchalak of the European Punjabi Sath, highlighted the organisation’s dedication to promoting Punjabi literature and history.
The event concluded with a call to recognise Sultanpur Lodhi not just as a historical treasure but as a living symbol of Guru Nanak’s universal messages of unity, compassion and environmental harmony.
