Mohali, August 19
Panic spread in the area around VR Punjab Mall in Kharar at around 3pm after a bomb threat was received by the authorities concerned via an email.
Police rushed to the spot and evacuated the mall, after which a massive combing operation was launched. Anti-bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were rushed to spot and after a thorough check, the police cleared the area.
Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said, “The area was evacuated and checked thoroughly. Nothing objectionable has been found here.” Visitors and staff were evacuated from the building promptly, he said.
In the run-up to the Independence Day, the police had been conducting checking and mock drills at all public places in Mohali to prevent any untoward incidents.
A mall in Amritsar also received a similar threat via an email today.
