Bollywood star Akshay Kumar sends Rs 25 lakh aid for Glory Bawa

Days after Punjabi folk singer Glory Bawa, daughter of celebrated Punjabi folk artiste and Padma Bhushan awardee Gurmeet Bawa, shared her financial struggles post her mother’s death, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has sent Rs 25 lakh for her as gesture of goodwill. Confirming the news, Glory said the star, in a message that she received through a close acquaintance, had sent her family his good wishes, terming his monetary help a gesture from a “brother to a sister”.
“I got a call from my bank manager, who told me about the money transfer into my account by Akshay Kumar Bhatia (Akshay Kumar’s original last name). I was also told that he had sent a message that how he deeply respects my mother late Gurmeet Bawa. It was a surprise for me,” she said.
Glory also said that post her public confession on her financial crisis, she had received several calls in support from Punjabi NRIs who were offering her work as a performing artiste. “I stressed that I never really asked for money, but gainful employment through my art. I have received several calls from NRI Punjabi brothers and sisters who have promised me work as an artiste,” she shared. Earlier, Punjab Cabinet minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal had presented her Rs 1 lakh cheque as financial assistance.
