Civil Surgeon Dr Jayant Ahuja has constituted a board of doctors to inquire into the ‘slap' incident which occurred in the Civil Hospital on Thursday.

Notably, the Class IV employees at the hospital went on a strike after a Deputy Civil Surgeon and a nurse reportedly slapped one of their colleagues in the X-ray room.

Deepak, a Class IV employee, said he was working in Room No. 61 when Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Asha Sahrawat, along with a staff nurse, reached there. They allegedly misbehaved with him. When Deepak started making a video with his mobile phone, the doctor and the nurse allegedly tried to snatch his phone and thrashed him in the presence of patients and other staff members. He further alleged that the doctor also slapped him.

All the Class IV employees gathered outside the hospital and protested after getting the information about the incident. Officials tried to pacify the protesting employees. The police also reached the hospital and began a probe into the matter.

On the other hand, Dr Asha refuted the allegation of slapping Deepak. "I went to the Civil Hospital for a routine inspection. As I asked Deepak about his absence from the duty, he started making videos and misbehaving with us," she alleged.

Both the Class IV employee and the Deputy Civil Surgeon lodged a complaint against each other at the Sector 27 police station. Civil Surgeon Dr Jayant Ahuja said: "A board has been constituted to inquire into the matter," Dr Ahuja said, adding that prima facie it appeared to be some old tussle between the doctor and Class IV employees from CHC, Kharkhoda.
