BKU activists hold protest outside Payal MLA’s office
Activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) staged a protest outside Payal MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura’s office. The demonstration sought to highlight the urgent need for uninterrupted paddy procurement and efficient lifting from mandis.
The union leaders addressed the gathering, voicing concern that paddy crops of farmers were languishing in markets. They alleged that both the Central and state governments were shirking their responsibility in purchase crops, adding to the distress of farmers.
The protest is part of a broader movement. Since October 17, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) has successfully freed 25 toll plazas in Punjab. The union has now begun marching towards offices and residences of AAP ministers and MLAs, advocating unhindered government procurement.
Sudagar Singh Ghudani, general secretary of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), pledged to continue the protest indefinitely. “We will not back down until our demands are met,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, the Chowkiman toll plaza remained free for commuters for the second day as farmers have been sitting at the toll barrier since yesterday.
