BJP upsets Congress plans in Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri districts
The BJP sprang a surprise in the Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts as the party has won five out of six Assembly segments in the two districts. The defection of former Congress minister Kiran Choudhry to the BJP soon after the Lok Sabha polls and selection of the candidates seemed to ensure the victory of the BJP here which were though stated to be comparatively weaker segments for the party.
Bhiwani district results
- Bhiwani: Ghanshyam Saraf won by 32,714 against INDIA alliance candidate from CPM Om Prakash
- Tosham: BJP’s Shruti Choudhry won by 14,257 against Congress’ Anirudh Chaudhry
- Bawani Khera: BJP’s Kapoor Valmiki won by 21,779 against Pradeep Narwal of the Congress
- Dadri: BJP’s Suneel Sangwan won by 1,957 against Manisha Sangwan of the Congress
- Badhra: BJP’s Umed Singh won by 7,585 against Somvir Singh of the Congress
- Loharu: Rajbir Fartia of Congress won by 792 against JP Dalal of the BJP
While the BJP had won Tosham, Bhiwani, Bawani Khera (Reserved), Badhra and Dadri seats, the Congress could win only one seat — Loharu where the BJP’s minister JP Dalal lost to the Congress’s new face Rajbir Fartia.
The BJP has two strong leaders, including sitting MP from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat Dharambir Singh and Kiran Choudhry, who seemed to have worked in tandem to sway the fortunes of the BJP in these districts. Choudhry’s daughter Shruti Choudhry defeated her cousin Anirudh Chaudhry of the Congress in the traditional family stronghold Tosham.
The jailer turned politician Suneel Sangwan registered the most surprising victory in the Dadri Assembly segment to win the seat for the first time for the BJP. Sangwan, who is son of former minister Satpal Sangwan had resigned from service as the Jail Superintendent and got the BJP ticket days before the Assembly elections. He defeated Manisha Sangwan of the Congress.
The BJP’s decision to replace sitting minister Bishamber Valmiki with new face Kapoor Valmiki in the Bawani Khera Assembly segment also turned the tables on the Congress which was hoping to cash in on the poor performance of the former BJP MLA. The Bhiwani Assembly seat also went to the BJP as Ghanshyam Saraf won this seat.
