BJP to corner AAP govt over pollution, poor infra in Delhi Assembly session

The BJP legislative party, led by Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta, will challenge the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government during the Delhi Assembly session, set to begin on November 29. The Opposition plans to raise several issues, including public interest concerns, corruption and failures in key sectors such as health and education.

At a meeting held on Tuesday, the BJP MLAs, including Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Abhay Verma, Ajay Mahawar, Anil Bajpai and Jitendra Mahajan, passed a resolution that will form the basis of their strategy in the Assembly. The BJP leaders also demanded that a question hour be included in the session to allow legislators to hold the government accountable on critical issues.

A major point of contention raised during the meeting was the issuance of voter cards to Rohingyas by the Delhi Government. Sharma presented a proposal to oppose this move, which was unanimously supported by the party.

Gupta said, “We will demand that the government table 12 CAG reports in the House to disclose the public money spent in various sectors. The government must provide clear answers on its expenditures.”

The BJP has also highlighted other critical issues, including the alarming levels of pollution in Delhi, with air quality crossing hazardous levels of 400, and the alleged wastage of public funds on projects like the extravagant “Sheesh Mahal” constructed for the former Chief Minister. Gupta pointed out that essential tasks, such as the formation of the sixth Delhi Finance Commission and issuing ration cards to 90,000 poor citizens under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, remain unaddressed.

The Opposition also plans to demand answers on the closure of 29 Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas, incomplete ICU block constructions in hospitals and the abandonment of schools in Dariyapur after crores were spent on their construction. “These issues reflect the government’s total failure in meeting the basic needs of Delhi’s residents,” said Gupta.

Other matters, such as the pollution of the Yamuna river, the failure to address the needs of 1.5 lakh students who failed in government schools and the mounting Rs 73,000 crore debt of the Delhi Jal Board, will also be brought up. The BJP will also raise concerns about poor infrastructure, including road accidents due to deteriorating road conditions and overflowing sewers.

Gupta said, “This government has failed on all fronts. Their only agenda seems to be enriching themselves at the cost of the public. Whether it’s in healthcare, education, or infrastructure, this government has shown no concern for the hardships faced by citizens.”
