New Delhi, July 20

In a scathing critique of the AAP government, BJP MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Bansuri Swaraj, alongside senior BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, accused the Delhi administration of gross negligence in tackling severe pollution in the Capital.

Pollution dropped by 31%: AAP

  • AAP has claimed that pollution levels in Delhi have decreased by 31%, as “acknowledged by the Centre during a parliamentary discussion”.
  • The party further said the government had introduced a comprehensive Winter and Summer Action Plan, designed to tackle pollution during different seasons.
  • It also highlighted initiatives like the conversion of CNG-run industries to PNG and expansion of the fleet of electric buses

They highlighted the government’s alleged failures and misuse of Central funds earmarked for pollution-control efforts. Citing a WHO report that ranks the city among the most polluted in the world, Bidhuri said, “This is not only the BJP’s allegation. It is a fact that is being recognised by the international authorities. The Supreme Court has also highlighted chaotic transportation and road dust as the primary sources of pollution in Delhi.”

He further said: “Earlier, Kejriwal would blame stubble burning in Punjab for Delhi’s pollution. Now that the party is in power in the state, he conveniently ignores this issue.”

He claimed that the smog tower meant to mitigate pollution in the city remained non-functional. “Pollution causes 12,000 deaths annually in the Capital, yet Kejriwal and his ministers are silent on the issue,” he said. He alleged that the Kejriwal government had spent Rs 24 crore on publicity for a solution to stubble burning that cost Rs 1 crore.
